JotCam’s core workflow runs locally. Camera access is required for capture; location and sensor access are optional and used only for the related photo context. No JotCam account or mandatory cloud upload is required.
What works offline
Without an internet connection, JotCam can perform its core functions:
- Capture photos
- Apply selected stamps
- Add Photo Notes and Report Notes
- Add markup
- Organize Project Profiles, Projects and Sessions
- Review History
- Import photos from the device
- Create Field Report and Photo Log PDFs
- Export CSV and KMZ files
The device may still need its own satellite or sensor access to produce coordinates and direction. GPS availability is not the same as internet availability.
What stays on the device
JotCam stores its working records locally. Finished photos are also saved to the device’s photo library or gallery.
JotCam does not require:
- A JotCam account
- Mandatory JotCam cloud storage
- Advertising
- Behavioural analytics
- A subscription
Because the records are local, the user is responsible for device security, backups, retention and intentional sharing.
Limited purchase and entitlement information is handled separately by Apple App Store or Google Play and RevenueCat. RevenueCat uses an anonymous App User ID and does not receive JotCam photos, notes, markups, coordinates, project information, logos or generated reports.
What requires internet access
Internet access is required to purchase Pro, restore a purchase and occasionally validate Pro access. These purchase functions use Apple App Store or Google Play billing through RevenueCat.
The 15-day Pro trial requires no payment details, does not automatically become a purchase and does not create a recurring charge. When it expires, Pro features become unavailable while Free features remain usable.
Camera permission
Camera access is required to capture new photos through JotCam.
If access is denied, enable it later in the device’s JotCam app settings.
Location permission
Location access is optional. It is used when coordinates are enabled for new captures.
If location is off:
- Photos can still be taken
- Coordinate fields remain unavailable
- KMZ exports omit records without GPS coordinates
Direction and sensor access
Compass direction depends on the device’s sensors and surrounding conditions.
Heading can be affected by:
- Structural steel
- Vehicles
- Electrical equipment
- Magnetic accessories
- Device calibration
Treat the result as field context rather than a precise survey bearing.
Photo library or gallery access
JotCam may request access needed to:
- Save finished images
- Import selected existing photos
- Choose an optional report logo
Available permission choices vary by device.
Sharing and optional services
JotCam does not automatically send core records to its own photo cloud. A file leaves the local workflow only when the user intentionally shares or exports it to another service.
Any destination service you choose operates under that provider’s terms and privacy practices.
