DOCUMENTATION

Mark Up Photos in JotCam

Use JotCam arrows, double-sided arrows, circles, rectangles, freehand drawing and text labels to identify details in field photos.

SUMMARY

On the review screen, tap MARKUP, select a tool and colour, place the annotation, adjust it as needed, then return to the review screen before saving.

Markup should help the reader find the relevant detail without covering the condition being documented.

Open markup

  1. Take a photo.
  2. On the review screen, tap MARKUP below the image.
  3. Select the required tool.

Choose a tool

Arrow

Points to one specific feature or condition.

2-Way

Creates a double-sided arrow. It can be used to indicate a span, separation or dimension visually. Do not imply a measured distance unless a reliable measurement was actually taken.

Circle

Isolates a small feature in a visually busy image.

Rect

Places a rectangle around an opening, panel, work area or larger condition.

Draw

Creates a freehand line for irregular boundaries or quick field indications.

Text

Adds a short text label directly to the image.

Choose a colour

Select one of the available colour swatches. Choose a colour that remains visible against the photo background.

Adjust annotations

Depending on the selected item, you can:

  • Drag it to reposition
  • Use handles to resize or rotate
  • Make text smaller or larger
  • Rotate selected text
  • Delete the selected annotation using the trash icon

Tap the active tool again or close the markup section to finish drawing.

Undo or clear markup

  • Undo: removes the most recent annotation.
  • Clear: removes all current annotations.

Use Clear carefully; it affects all markup on the current image.

Save the result

Return to the review screen and inspect the complete image. When you tap Save Annotated Photo, the markup becomes part of the finished JPEG.

Markup tips

  • Use the fewest annotations needed to make the point.
  • Keep arrows and labels away from the condition itself.
  • Do not use markup to exaggerate scale or certainty.
  • Prefer a second detail photo when the subject cannot be shown clearly with restrained markup.
