Allow camera access, choose the photo information you want in Settings, create or select your work organization, take a photo, add any Photo Note or markup, and tap Save Annotated Photo.
This guide walks through the complete first-use workflow. More detailed guides are linked throughout.
1. Open JotCam and choose permissions
On first launch, JotCam may request:
- Camera access: required to take photos.
- Location access: optional; required only when you want device-generated coordinates on new JotCam photos.
- Motion or sensor access: may be required for compass direction, depending on the device.
- Photo library or gallery access: used when saving or importing photos, subject to the permissions offered by the device.
If you decline a permission, you can usually enable it later through the device’s app settings. JotCam’s other features remain available when an optional permission is turned off.
2. Learn the three main tabs
Camera
Take photos, choose the active Project and Session, adjust the project/site label, and open camera tools.
History
Review saved records, filter photos, import images, move records between Sessions and create exports.
Settings
Choose visible photo context, aspect ratio, coordinate format, stamp placement and size, plus report details and branding.
Settings changes are saved automatically. There is no separate Save button.
3. Configure a simple photo stamp
Open Settings and choose the information you want visible on new photos. A useful first setup is:
- Date
- Time
- Direction
- Project/site label
Coordinates are off by default. Turn them on only if they are useful for the work and grant location access when requested.
You can also choose:
- Decimal Degrees or UTM coordinate display
- 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio
- Top-left, top-right, bottom-left or bottom-right stamp placement
- Small, medium or large stamp text

4. Organize the first record
JotCam uses three levels:
- Project Profile - the overall job or assignment
- Project - a particular date, inspection or work event
- Session - the site, area or photo grouping within that Project
Example:
- Project Profile: Westview Tower
- Project: August 16 Site Walk
- Session: Tower A
The same Session name can be used again in another Project without mixing the records.

5. Take and review the photo
- Open Camera.
- Confirm the active Project, Session and project/site label.
- Frame the subject.
- Tap the preview to focus or use the zoom control as needed.
- Tap the shutter button.
- On the review screen, add an optional Photo Note.
- Add markup if the important feature is not immediately obvious.
- Confirm that the photo, stamp, note and markup look correct.
- Tap Save Annotated Photo.
The photo is not permanently saved until you tap Save Annotated Photo.
6. Confirm the result
After saving, JotCam:
- Creates a finished JPEG with the selected stamp, Photo Note and markup
- Saves the finished photo to the device’s photo library or gallery
- Adds the record to JotCam History
- Associates it with the active Project and Session
Open History and confirm that the record appears where expected.
